Summer Season-ing
consistency is a four letter word
Omgoodness it’s May, y’all (& nearly June too)
About six weeks ago I attempted to sit down and write this newsletter to everyone but the following took up my time:
The Decan Walk on SubStack is front & center. Jump in at any time, read about the current decan/journal about it in your own life/understand the transiting planets. I write for every decan but bring in the transits of each month & there’s lots of collaborative work woven throughout.
I participated in two live events for ISAR this month and one included giving a lecture called
“Anima Mundi from the 3rd House”
I’ll be writing about this lecture topic on my Practical Astros page where I dive into four asteroid myths and their role in natural healing.
I am working on a collaborative piece with the Esoeteric Isle on Grimoires (which is the same topic I’ll be speaking on at UAC in Chicago this September) I was the first collaborator with the Astrologer’s Co-Op new initiative.
I was the first collaborator with the Astrologer’s Co-Op new initiative. I crafted a Day-in-the-Life project (video & article). More collabs with this team are in the works.
I am mid-stream as a magician in The Magician’s Table, a co-creative course hosted by Britten LaRue that allows your personal magic to form in a group container. So much mischief is stirring within this project that I’m happy to reveal it in stages this summer & fall.
Other work that’s kept me busy (& away from writing)
I still make multiple educational videos a month on my YouTube channel including forecasts and interviews.
I read for clients! Book a birthday reading, Geminis!
I volunteer for OPA as a part of their social media team
I helped my sister with her annual plant sales three weekends in a row (My garden is full!)
I trained & ran a 5K with my Girls on the Run team (group of 3rd & 4th year girls) I traveled out west to visit a family member in need.
I met up with a handful of local astrologers for some locational scheming <3
I did my other job
I also am a mom
I say all of this to share the honest reality of what it means to be a human, an entrepreneur, a volunteer, a wife/mom/sister/daughter, and someone who watches patterns in the sky to reflect the patterns in our lives. Someone recently unsubscribed from one of my SubStacks and left a review that I was neglecting SubStack A for SubStack B. At first, I felt stung like I had let them down for not producing enough but then felt relief that they had provided me feedback at all (Thank YOU). Not providing enough or producing enough is a haunt and is something that I’ve been reflecting on this past month. What does it mean to create this work, offer it for free and for sale, how do others value it (or take it for granted?) When is it ever enough? (spoiler: it is always enough) The motivation at the end of that reflection is: this is the work I’m here to do, the magic I’m here to channel and share it with the vocabulary and capacity that me, in my authentic human existence, can provide. I will never meet everyone’s expectations but that’s alright.
also a note: thank you for everyone who provides feedback for this work: a review of a reading, a comment on a post, a critique in an unsubscribe etc. So much of this work involves singing into the void, so to receive an echo back is affirming. It is an echo location of where these words are landing and directs me on my foggy path forward.
I always have a busy April/May as it is my birthday season. I celebrated my birthday on 12 May with a series of nourishing, self care practices (including yoga, brunch & a massage… in that order)1. The end of a personal year is a time you can clock in astrology as your “12th house” time, that final month in a personal year that you go through, surrender, wrap up, endure, reflect etc… So, being a Taurus, Aries season is that 12th house season for me. Aries happens to be the 6th house in my chart, a house notorious for The Grind. I worked really hard during Aries season, I worked at capacity; I tapped unused resources; I flew with the owls & was up with the eagles and as I finished a personal year working right up until the finish line (the eve of my birthday I was deep into finishing articles), I landed on the otherside to begin. again.
But now I am on the other side of that time and I thank you to those who are still here to read these words.
As a Newsletter, Patreon or SubStack member, you can see that my own patterning doesn’t adhere to an arbitrary schedule according to mechanical time. I follow the inspiration of my daimon (more on that later too) and it is my view that inspiration is directly related to a rested, nourished body. Thank you for allowing me the time for all of my work & the time for recovery. No one is coercing you to be here and so for all who stay, through all seasons, I am really honored that you’re here.
Being connected here (wherever you’re reading this) means that you are in relationship with my work. Some of you subscribe, some of you pay with cash, some of you share with friends but however you connect, I am glad that you do.
I won’t apologize for not performing “consistently” because, I would argue that I have, just not in a single, written form. Every social media manager that I talk with gives me the same critique:
consistency
consistency
consistency
But I think consistency is overrated and a sign of being slaves to the very machines we build to free us.
When I look back on the work that I’ve cultivated the past 6 weeks, I know that I couldn’t/shouldn’t have tried to fit in any more for consistency’s sake. So, I am satisfied with my performance and hope that sharing my life here will help you understand a bit of what goes in to being a business as a human.
You, yourself, are allowed to fluctuate in natural rhythms and I simply wanted to reflect where I’ve been fluctuating. It is the most human thing we can do. So, if I gave you a reading or brought you food, sold you plants or you sat in a lecture; if you read a paper mailer or used the prompts in the decan walk; if you subscribed to one of my socials or reposted an article: thank you for constellating with me.
Share back with me, if you wish. For all, I’m just glad you’re here <3
What does my new year rhythm look like now? Well, I will continue to honor my daimon/guardian spirit of inspiration and craft my astrology work through the multimedia tools on a kairos timeline.
I continue to offer my monthly Selenodromion snail mail subscription
I write an apothecary writing for each new & full moon to deepen the connection with food, plants and the lunar cycle (On SubStack A lol)
In August, my Asteri Sofia Kairos (there’s that word again!) will host our new eclipse workshop for the Leo New Moon
If you’re in Western NC, I’ll be reading at the Flowers, Frolic & Fayre on June 6 & 7
The June forecast with my astro-sister, Mandi Rae, will be published next week. You can listen to May’s forecast here.
Lastly, my books will be much more open for readings in June & July than they have been all year. Catch yourself a reading time if you’re curious about your own life, want to understand your own timing or to plan for what your future is designing for you. The eclipse in August is approaching and being an eclipse in Leo, it opens up all sorts of solar questions around purpose, energy sources, consistency, and what we shine in our lives. My decan story reading continues to be the fan favorite, but you can check out all of my offers on my booking page: Practical Astros’ Calendly
And with that, I’ll hopefully see you somewhere in orbit, irl or online.
Spell it,
Christa Joy 🌙
