~Arium: Full Aquarius Moon
Planet~Arium | Plant~Arium | Lun~Arium
~Arium is a new project. It is a deliberate space, “a location or receptacle” as the dictionary explains. One that is carved out to make way for new moons and full moons. This first stage of ~Arium is to craft herbal and food allies to go with each lunation, herbs that might be familiar (or not) in order to encourage exploration of the foods and herbs we consume as a part of lunar rituals.
The Saturnine Moon while the Sun’s at Home
If you want to look ahead to the next 6 months of moons
(August 2025-February 2026)
I have a simple 18 page guide on the next
notes on the herbs:
I will recommend a few herbs for each month for you to try. Since we are working with the moon many of these herbs are digestive focused: warming or soothing in nature, supportive to digestive movement or enzyme rich. As the stomach is said to be our second brain, so is the moon. In Astrology, the Moon has many correspondences and the body, our body, is one that connects us with our Moon. Some of these herbs are used to balance of energy of the moon while some are chosen to reflect and honor the nature of the moon. Sometimes the moments are so fired up, amplified with a fiery moon that cooling or soothing herbs rose to the surface of my mind. I invite you to find your own as you connect with the lunar cycles. If you’ve ever wanted to craft your own Grimoire, a book of spells/your own personal magic, then this series of lunar prompts is your invitation. Sometimes we don’t put into words that we want to do something until we’re invited by someone else. I’m banking on that for some folks and want to make sure I give out the invitation.
What’s included in ~Arium twice a month are prompts to discover more plant medicines in your life. The recommendations are there for you to explore in your own kitchen. Please use common sense with caution in consuming any new foods (herbs are food) and I will include some resources for you to learn about their use and praxis. I’ll also be writing about the plants each month and reason out why I chose them. Sometimes the answer is as simple as: its a round, white fruit that reminds me of the moon. It holds water, carries memory as we do. Eat it slowly in a mindfulness practice. I’d encourage you to explore new grocers around you, what’s in your neighborhood. The Moon finds her joy in the 3rd House, the house of locality. Search in your maps for all of the grocery stores, fruit stands, specialty shops in a 5 mile radius and you’ll be surprised how many there can be. Yes, there are food deserts in places urban and rural, but many of us have more options than we realize. I count 11 on my map within a 1 mile radius but already see that it doesn’t list some smaller tiendas that just sell fresh foods. I recommend that you use this moment as an excuse to treasure hunt your local stores. Take note when you see a small pop up and make plans to return to it when you have time. Of course, Carpe Diem, I’d say seeing it is a sign to stop in and buy some fruit. What you’ll find there is the chance to find choices new to your world, to connect you to your local world (lunar) and maybe find some spices or fruits that you can explore and continue to grow your apothecary.
this is all a ruse to help you expand your apothecary.
this is the apothecary door opening as your invitation.
So let’s get into it:
Full Moon Aquarius
Simply designed, the image contains the chart, set for my location in Eastern Standard Time. You can use this chart if you want to consider the aspects to the other planets. Don’t worry too much about where the moon is in this chart. What I encourage you to do is to cast your own natal chart. I have a video on my YouTube that walks you through that HERE. You can find where this moon is within your own nativity and if it is making any aspects to your natal planets. That’s always “fun” :)
Now, with your mind’s eye (or your open eyes), imagine your natal chart and think about the area of life that the House of Aquarius represents. I’ll also include a graph that lists of the house topics in a nativity at the bottom. The House or Topic of life in whatever house Aquarius is in within your nativity, this is where the full moon is occurring.
Full Moons are bright times. Moon in Aquarius is the time to make the fingerprint of your soul be clear and honest. Stay weird and embrace everyone else’s authenticity. Let the sunshine burn away formalities that no longer serve your authenticity.
Think about the Leo & Aquarius houses in your chart. The full moon is present with a retrograde Pluto in opposition to the Leo Sun. The tension of power between the Sun and the Pluto infused Full Moon is a bright, hot+cold energy. A cold plunge/sauna/cold plunge/sauna of alternating energies.
The Sun is our universal center, a symbol of eternity of steadiness. It provides the brilliance so that we can see our lived existence and it’s journey through the zodiac reminds us of our own fate. The Sun dies at the western horizon so that it can rise again. Death, as reminded by Aquarius Pluto in this full moon, is the sun’s reminder of our own fate. It’s still Leo Season, so find the light wherever you can. Use the fullness of the Aquarius moon as a scrying mirror for all of the universal secrets being shown to us in the collective. Death, rebirth, riches, authenticity, truth, treasures, love. It’s all here.
The foods and herbs that came to mind for this Aquarius full moon are:
Brahmi/Bacopa. Called the “herb of grace” or “water hyssop” and used widely in Ayurvedic medicine, Bacopa is your brain’s bestie during any elemental air moon. It can simultaneously boost brain function and reduce stress/anxiety. Those who suffer from ADHD have had success consuming Bacopa (but I’m not making any claims here #dshea). The easy way to invite this herb with regularity into your kitchen is to make a tea with the dried herb. If you can powder the tea into a finer blend, try mixing it with a warm milk. Add honey to taste. This is one of those herbs that quickly becomes a staple in your apothecary once you’ve tried it.
Mucuna. “The Magic Velvet Bean” sounds like a wizard’s charm in a children’s tale, doesn’t it? Mucuna is just this. Some call it the “dopamine bean” as it helps balance mood and energy, lifting spirits in a joyful way. Also used as an aphrodisiac (lift your spirits, eh?) you can drink this herb as a powdered tea any time of day. It is tasty and blends well with other flavors if you want to add it to smoothies or yogurts (even baked goods/functional foods)
Blue lotus. The flower of intuition. I reserve time to drink blue lotus tea, I don’t believe she is to be taken lightly. She’s a deep thinker, a calm goddess, a psychopomp plant that will lead you down paths in the dream and in meditation. I will substitute Hibiscus for regular dream work use if I am wanting to travel closer to the surface in the dream. If I want to go very deep, I choose Blue Lotus. She is a stellar guide. Drink as a mild tea (not too hot).
Bitter orange. This is an excellent, zero bullshit digestive plant. It’s commonly taken as a weight loss supplement, in capsule form. I think because of this plant’s medicine being about stimulating the flavor as medicine, I recommend using the extract. Yes it is bitter, but that’s the point. When you taste it, your body produces bile which helps break down foods, helping the digestive process work best. You can put 5 drops in a small amount of water if you can’t stand tasting it directly on your tongue. Bring some sunshine/Leo into your gut!
Mango & Dragon fruit. Both of these fruits bring excellent color to your plates, are both rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, helping digestion with prebiotic and enzyme rich nutrients. They are both beneficial for heart and immune health. Plus, they’re pretty and showy! You can eat mango a little on the green/unripe side if you like but choose your dragonfruit when it’s softer (like you would an avocado). Dragonfruit is a weird and brilliant fruit that’s perfect for this Aquarius moon. The sunny Mango accompanying it (in your acai bowl?) invites the sunny Leo to complete this lunation. Slice them thinly and layer them like a fruit ratatouille for a feast for the eyes (before the feast for your body)
Happy eating! Happy Herb-ing!
May your Aquarian dreams be highlighted by the all knowing Sun.
